More than a game: How a 6-a-side tournament brought our recovery community together
There’s a unique magic that happens when people come together with a shared goal. Today, that magic showed up out on the pitch. What looked like a standard 6-a-side fotball tournament from the sidelines was something much deeper to us. It was a celebration of community, resilience, and the interconnected journey of recovery.
Sports have a funny way stripping away the noise. Whether it’s completing 5K community run, hitting a PB on a lift in the gym, chasing down a pass or cheering on from the sidelines, you’re not thinking about the past, or worrying about the future; you’re completely in the moment surrounded by those that have your back. That sense of belonging is what recovery is about.

A meeting of Hubs and hearts
Events like this remind us that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, but thrives when we build ridges between people and organisations. Today, we were thrilled to welcome four teams who brought their absolute best energy to the tournament.
- Morecambe Hub
- Kendal Hub
- Barrow Hub
- Elisha House

Watching these teams compete, laugh, and support one another underscored why we do this work. It wasn’t just about representing your Hub or organisation but recognising we’re all part of a larger, deeply supportive systen. When we connect like this, our ability to support people oon their recovery grows.
Congratulations to the champions!
The games were hard fought and the team work inspiring, with unmatched sportsmanship. While every player left everything on the field, there could only be one winner.
Elisha House

A massive thank you to Elisha House for travelling to be with us and making the day so special. Not only did they being incredible spirit to the pitch, but they also managed to secure the top spot and take the tournament trophy home! Massive congratulations to their squad – you earned it.
They said about the win, “Recovery is a team sport. Today proved that when we play together, support each other, and show up for one another, everyone wins.”
Thank you to everyone who played, organised the day, and cheered us on. Let’s keep moving forward, together, one step (or pass) at a time.
